Our on-site detoxification
services are designed to provide a safe and comfortable withdrawal from
alcohol and/or drugs. Professionally monitored, the goal of detox is
to cleanse the body to prepare our clients for transition into treatment
services.
Recovery/Relapse Prevention Planning
Relapse prevention begins
immediately following detoxification. The curriculum is designed to educate
our clients on topics including, but not limited to: the progression
of addiction, the disease concept, post acute withdrawal and addictive
preoccupations, internal and external threats to stabilization, identifying
and managing relapse warning signs and triggers, development of coping
strategies and developing a personal relapse prevention plan. Each individual’s
work is explored through a Personal Recovery & Relapse Prevention workbook
that is shared with staff and peers during the group. Each client’s
discharge plan also incorporates his or her relapse prevention strategies.
Our staff works closely with every client to facilitate an aftercare
plan that provides for a smooth transition and supports long-term recovery.
12-Step Program
The principals of 12-Step
programs and the "one day at a time" philosophy establish a solid foundation
for recovery from addiction. 12-Step education is an integral part of
the clinical program at Harmony Place. The 12-Steps for Living Group
is utilized to educate the clients about 12-Step program philosophy,
principles underlying the 12-Steps and how to integrate the 12-Step program
into the individual’s life. Harmony Place clients also experience
first-hand the curative effects of the 12-Step fellowship by attending
daily 12-Step meetings. They begin to integrate the 12-Step program philosophy
into their lives. Clients are also encouraged to participate in the practice
of daily meditation and reflection through our Daily Reflections and
10th Step Groups.
Pain Education Group
Pain and addiction have
traditionally been treated as separate problems. Pain can prove a relapse
trigger for individuals in recovery and chronic pain is an especially
critical issue for an individual recovering from chemical dependency.
Individuals with chronic pain may become addicted to pain medication.
At Harmony Place, we address the addictive disorder concurrently with
the pain disorder. We utilize the same biopsychosocial approach to pain
disorders as we do to addiction. Clients are provided with information
to assist in their understanding of the pain syndrome. Akin to relapse
prevention education, individuals examine situations that may threaten
their stability. They are offered multiple holistic practices from which
to draw interventions that will support their lifestyle and recovery.
The primary goal of the group is to educate the individual about their
specific pain issues so they are properly equipped to manage them in
recovery.
Spirituality
Harmony Place not only
endorses a biopsychosocial approach to treatment, but we also focus on
the spiritual component of an individual’s life. Considering that
spirituality loosely refers to a desire for meaning and fulfillment through
relationships between family, friends and communities, the consequences
of drug and/or alcohol dependence may have damaged the individual’s
spiritual connection. Participation in the Spirituality Group introduces
or re-introduces each individual to his or her own value system. It permits
them to gain perspective on purpose and meaning in their lives. It further
empowers them with the understanding of the concept of a “higher
power” in preparation to participate in the 12-Steps.
