Dual Diagnosis |
Depressed mood, anxiety or panic, sleep disturbance, disordered eating; these are just some of the underlying symptoms that are often self-medicated with the use of alcohol and/or drugs. The substance use further compounds these symptoms and individuals can become addicted while in search of relief. Conversely, using drugs and/or alcohol can interfere with proper treatment of emotional illnesses, escalating symptom manifestation. Both require appropriate treatment for stabilization of emotional well-being and a successful maintenance of sobriety. |

Individual Therapy/Counseling |
The therapeutic alliance is a valued relationship that provides the client with a trusted and objective ally in the recovery process. Depending upon their individual needs, Harmony Place provides each of our clients with licensed clinicians and certified drug and alcohol counselors to support their healing process, whether it is based from addiction or a dual disorder. Our therapists work closely with each client to determine their individual treatment goals and manage that treatment through to discharge. |

Family Therapy |
Family therapy addresses addiction as a family disease. An individual's substance use disorder may affect everyone in the family. For this reason, it is crucial that the family of the client be involved in their own program of recovery. Mending the wounds caused by the individual in the throes of their disease is often painful. Family members are encouraged to participate in family sessions with our staff when appropriate. The Family Therapy component focuses on expanded awareness and educates the family regarding codependence, communication skills and relapse prevention. This process permits the client and the family to begin to recover from the potentially damaging effects of addiction. |

The Games We Play |
The Games We Play Group sets the stage for interpersonal communication and often reveals character traits that may cause interpersonal stress, which, in turn, makes living sober an uncomfortable prospect. A variety of interactive modalities (i.e. Gestalt techniques, drama games, role playing) are employed by a specialist to help clients enhance these skills through an experiential understanding of how easy it can be to shift into positive thinking. The group setting permits the individual members to explore personal and/or personality issues within a more realistic interpersonal context. The group experience provides a context for observation, education, modeling and evaluation of behaviors. Individuals benefit from the collaborative nature of the group process (which instills support, confidentiality and cohesiveness) while learning and practicing new behaviors and coping strategies to support recovery and prevent relapse. |
