Women’s Drug Rehab: Why Is It Different?

Drug Rehab

Studies have shown that men benefit far more from traditional drug rehab centers than do women. This is due to the fact that female drug dependence and addiction is less based on physical dependence and is heavily influenced by spiritual, mental and emotional trauma. Dual sex programs rarely have the desired benefit for women, though men usually find these programs helpful.

For women, drug rehab is a complex subject, requiring an understanding of the woman’s past physical, mental and emotional history. A quality drug rehabilitation program for women combines all of these aspects, as well as provides the means for exploration, both alone and in group settings, of the underlying reasons for drug use and addiction. Biology, spirituality and mental exercises must all be combined for the most effective treatment.
