Women’s Alcohol Rehabilitation: Understanding the Difference

Alcohol Rehabilition Comments (0)

The traditional approach to alcohol rehabilitation is to simply place the alcoholic in a center and provide him or her with detox programs. However, this policy does not offer the same benefits to both men and women. For example, women metabolize alcohol in a different manner than men, leading to different severities of dependence. In addition, the reasons that women turn to alcohol are very different from those of men, requiring specialized treatment plans.

A women’s alcohol rehabilitation center provides mental, spiritual and physical help for alcohol dependency, with specialized programs designed to support and teach women about their substance abuse problems, as well as begin dealing with the underlying reason for the dependency. These programs provide a starting point for the healing process, in a single-sex environment. Studies have found this to be the most beneficial way to beat alcoholism for women.
