Over four million American women are alcohol abusers. In addition, the abuse of alcohol is harder on a woman’s body than on a man’s. Alcohol treatment centers for women are highly needed services in our society to help women recover from alcohol addiction. When a woman drinks large amounts of alcohol on a regular basis, she is putting her liver at risk for alcoholic cirrhosis and hepatitis. She is also at risk for breast cancer, menstrual problems, and circulatory disorders, not to mention social and psychological problems associated with alcohol abuse. More female alcoholics die from suicides and accidents associated with alcohol than men do. Harmony Place is one of the alcohol treatment centers for women that provide a safe place for female alcoholics to detoxify and receive counseling to recover from their alcohol addictions.
